Heartburn The Role of the Duodenum In Digestion
Heartburn The Role of the Duodenum In Digestion Excerpt from the book, The Embarrassing Truth About Heartburn AND How To Cure It.by Joseph NEWBURG, Hot off the Press.
What is the role of the duodenum in your digestion? As stated before, it is the site of the pancreatic enzyme action. As the chyme passes through the duodenum, the process of further breakdown of food in the small intestine will continue using enzymes. The Brunner's glands, which secrete mucus, are in the duodenum. A thin layer of cells forms mucus in this area. The duodenum is almost entirely retroperitoneal. (The retroperitoneal space is the anatomical space in the abdominal cavity behind the peritoneum.) Like this? Buy the book and read the REST OF THE STORY about Heartburn.
